Rigging, Slinging, Inspection and
Safe Use of Lifting Equipment (LETI 06)
Who should attend?
Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.
Duration:
2 days including safety awareness and achievement test.
Aims:
To give training and assessment towards the
LGH Training
Certificates of Training achievement and provide proof of training for use at the delegate's place of work.
Content:
At the end of the course the operative should be able to:
- understand the requirements of the relevant legislation
- rig, inspect, manage, handle, store and use in a safe and proper manner specific items of lifting equipment
- establish the weight and balance, centre of gravity and dimensions of loads, and communicate this information to the appliance operator
- state the correct and incorrect uses and basic maintenance requirements of specific items of lifting equipment
- select appropriate lifting accessories and attach/detach to a load in a safe and proper manner
Knowledge:
At the end of the course the operative should have an adequate knowledge of:
- the duties and responsibilities, as required by statute, of a lifting equipment operative
- the effects of load movement on the stability of an appliance
- the potential hazards associated with load moving and how to overcome them
- the effect of varying the sling angles of multi-leg slings and how to re-rate them
- methods of establishing weights, centre of gravity, balance and dimensions of loads
- the standard code of signals
- equipment supplier requirements
- the inspection, correct marking, basic maintenance, storage and management of lifting equipment
- training requirements for the use of lifting equipment
- the correct and incorrect operation of specific equipment
- planning a lift to be safe
- safe rigging practicies
