Use of Winches (LETI 08)
Who should attend?
Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.
Duration:
1 day including safety awareness and achievement test.
Aims:
To give training and assessment towards the
LGH Training
Certificates of Training achievement and provide proof of training for use at the delegate's place of work.
Content:
At the end of the course the operative should be able to:
- understand the requirements of the relevant legislation
- rig, inspect, handle, store and use in a safe and proper manner specific accessories used with winches
- operate safely specific types of winches and carry out pre/post inspection
- select combinations of lifting equipment to meet specific lifting and safety requirements
- establish the weight, centre of gravity, balance and dimensions of loads
- list the factors which must be considered when planning a lift
- explain the correct and incorrect operation of winches
Knowledge:
At the end of the course the operative should have an adequate knowledge of:
- the duties and responsibilities, as required by statute, of an operative
- the effects of load movement on the stability of the winch
- potential hazards associated with winch operation and how to overcome them
- methods of establishing the physical properties of loads
- operator problems of winch operation and safe use
- winch safety devices
- basic maintenance requirements
- correct marking, handling and storage of winches and other accessories
- check lists for planning winching operations
