Slinging & Signalling Including
Hydraulic Lorry Loader (LETI 16)

Who should attend?
Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.

Duration:
1 day including safety awareness and achievement test.

Aims:
To give training and assessment towards the LGH Training Certificates of Training achievement and provide proof of training for use at the delegate's place of work.

Content:
At the end of the course the operative should be able to:

  • understand the requirements of the relevant legislation
  • establish the physical properties of loads and communicate this information to other personnel
  • select appropriate lifting accessories and attach and detach it correctly and safety
  • operate a hydraulic lorry loader moving loads of various weights and dimensions and act upon standard operating signals to ensure the safety of plant and personnel
  • carry out pre/post use inspection of plant and equipment to determine serviceability and store it correctly

Knowledge:
At the end of the course the operative should have an adequate knowledge of:

  • the duties and responsibilities, as required by statute, of a slinger and signaller
  • the effects of load movement on the stability of a lorry loader
  • potential hazards associated with lorry loader operation and how to overcome them
  • the effect of varying the angles of multi-leg slings and how to calculate their safe working loads
  • methods of establishing weights, centre of gravity and dimensions of loads
  • the standard code of signals
  • operator problems of lorry loader control
  • the factors to consider when planning a lift
  • lorry loader safety devices
  • the safe use of specific lifting items of lifting equipment
  • the main components of a lorry loader and the pre/post safety checks
