SafeUse of Hoist - Half Day (LETI 25)
Who should attend?
Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.
Duration:
Half a day including safety awareness and achievement test.
Aims:
To give training and assessment towards the
LGH Training
Certificates of Training achievement and provide proof of training for use at the delegate's place of work.
Content:
At the end of the course the operative should be able to:
- select appropriate lifting tackle and attach and detach it correctly and safely
- direct the actions of a hoist moving loads of various weights and dimensions, giving clear and unambiguous signals and in such a manner as to ensure the safety of personnel and plant determine the serviceability of lifting tackle, and maintain and store it correctly
- operate a hoist in a safe and proper manner
- plan work in consultation with others
Knowledge:
At the end of the course the operative should have an adequate knowledge of:
- the duties and responsibilities, as required by statue, of a slinger, signaller and hoist operator
- the effects of load movement on the stability of a hoist
- potential hazards associated with hoist operation and how to overcome them
- the preferred code of signals
- operator problems of hoist control
- the factors to consider when planning a lift
- hoist safety devices
- the safe use of a hoist
- the maximum safe working load
